| The Spear and Jackson Rabbiting Spade, or as it is some times know- a Poacher's Spade, orginated around the grounds of English estates and farms as tool to for rabbit hunting. Today it serves much more genial tasks around the garden.
A perfect transplanting spade, its curved blade quickly yeilds small deep holes for setting out plants or digging up bulbs and scoopes dirt better than a flat faced spade.
Time tested, skillfully crafted, perfectly balance and ruggedly dependable. For over 200 years the fires of Spear & Jackson’s Sheffield, England forge have endured countless adaptations, perfections and innovations to yield the classic Heritage Range of tools. Only manufacturing heritage of this caliber could transform an ingot of the high carbon steel and a cord of kiln dried hardwood into truly heirloom quality tools.
The head, hand forged from a single piece of tempered steel, is hammered closed around the high, solid socket shaft.
In comparison to the flat rolled steel of cheaper models, a hand forged tool allows the smith to taper the blade with decreasing thickness to ensure the narrowest, most penetrating edge is ready to meet the hardest of turfs. Epoxy coat for rust resistance. A 36” in lengths shaft is lacquered for weatherproofing.
